On Saturday, June 14, over 5 million people across the U.S. participated in No Kings protests to show their opposition to President Donald Trump and his policies.
In front of Milpitas City Hall, over 300 people came together for two hours to chant, hold up signs, and encourage passing drivers to “honk for democracy.”
Rob Means, an activist and Milpitas resident, worked to register and organize the event. Other attendees pitched in by bringing coffee, bottled water, and bagels. Many created signs with words like “No Kings Since 1776” and “Due Process is a Right, Not a Privilege.”
When asked why he felt it was meaningful to host the event, Means replied: “The U. S. Constitution, laws of the land, and societal norms established by We the People are being violated daily by the political regime that wants a dictator, not democracy. This gathering gave people who prefer democracy an opportunity to say so. And they did!”
Both Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors representative Otto Lee and Mount Pleasant Elementary School District Board of Trustees member Derek Grasty attended the event and presented speeches to the attendees.
Coming up on Thursday, July 17, from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, a Good Trouble Lives On rally is being planned in front of Milpitas City Hall and at other locations across the nation. The event will take place on the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’ passing. Sign up to attend here.
Very sad that our Mayor chose to attend a rally in another city, rather than support our own residents.
