VTA to require all employees to be vaccinated against COVID

A new policy put in place by The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) mandates that all company employees and independent contractors soon be fully vaccinated (booster shots not included) against COVID-19. Those in the employ of VTA have ‘til April 29, 2022 to comply.

Said a press release put out by the company, “This is an important step to ensure VTA can effectively protect employees and offer reliable public transit for those who depend on the service.”

On VTA’s rolls are over 2,000 employees and contractors, only 61% of whom have already been vaccinated according to voluntary reporting (it being understood that every new hire since August 1, 2021 has had to fulfill a vaccination requirement).

An exemption will exist for those employees citing religious or medical causes, but those exempted will be subject to weekly testing. Meanwhile, not all who seek exemption are expected to be approved.

The release went on to read, “VTA is making it convenient for employees to get tested and vaccinated for COVID-19, with regularly scheduled, free, on-site clinics at various VTA divisions.”
