As Election Day approaches, the candidates are doing all they can to rally support and connect with voters in their last push for every possible vote.
Voltaire Montemayor is one such candidate. He is running for mayor of Milpitas against current Mayor Carmen Montano, Councilmember Hon Lien, and Councilmember Anthony Phan. This is his fifth time at bat, and he is hopeful that voters will at last elect him.
“Because in me is great leadership with integrity,” Montemayor told The Beat. “I have potentials relatively considering my work experiences and studies in America and abroad, and my involvement with a few great organizations. I am brave, kind, practical, fair, liberal minded, and assertive.”
As a 44-year resident of Milpitas, Montemayor feels deeply connected to the community. He regularly volunteers his time and energy to various organizations, and frequently attends St. John’s Church.
“It is my dwelling place to serve,” said Montemayor.
Montemayor is one of the few people who attends just about every Milpitas City Council meeting. He feels that civic participation is very important, so he makes sure to be present and to stay current on all the latest issues. During the meetings, he makes his voice heard by coming up to speak during public comment.
“I state relevant notes and facts which are positive factors in the roll call voting decision of the City Council members,” said Montemayor. “I consider myself or at least one of the council members consider me as the 6th imaginary member, the fact that I stay in the meeting all night long in every meeting from the start time up to the adjournment time.”
If Montemayor is elected as mayor, he plans to focus on nurturing reconciliation and acceptance within the council. He would also prioritize fiscal responsibility and the alleviation of homelessness.
When asked what his favorite thing about Milpitas is, he replied:
“My 44 years of stay in Milpitas is remarkable and fascinating. The work places, the stores, the worship places, the residential, the parks, the industrial places, and other establishments are family-oriented. Milpitas is generally a peaceful city with harmonious residents.”
Montemayor also feels that there is still room for improvement…
He shared, “I hope to extend or widen my services to the whole city of Milpitas; to other establishments, to everywhere and to everyone in my beloved City of Milpitas, so that it’s a happy and safe city. God Bless.”
