The Milpitas Beat launches 21st Century American Writing Contest

As The Milpitas Beat has grown in recent years, we’ve become increasingly motivated to support and amplify the arts, and one of our first major ways of doing so is launching our first annual 21st Century American Writing Contest, which is presently accepting submissions from Novel writers, Nonfiction book writers, and Short Story writers across the USA (note: certain states don’t apply due to their contest laws; read the entry rules at the above link).

Through this contest, we seek to motivate and inspire writers from all walks of life to get churning on their manuscripts — or polish off the ones they’ve put in the drawers — and activate their most authentic and heartfelt expression. We are not limiting the entries to specific genres. The parameters we’re working within are those of truth itself.

In the meantime, we have another motive: The COVID-19 pandemic has gripped the globe. People are staying home now more than ever. Many of us have spoken fancifully about launching podcasts and getting into basket-weaving, but as the months wear on, being creative during the pandemic becomes less of a fantasy and more of a basic human need.

So, write! Write that short story. Write that novel. Write that nonfiction book. Turn your inner materials into outer materials. We seek your expression. We seek your utmost, outermost, innermost truth. The kind of truth that never grows old or goes out of style. The kind of truth that promotes human sharing and alleviates human loneliness.

We look forward to reading your stories and hearing your voices.
