Following the relocation and accordant resignation of Milpitas Unified School District (MUSD) Board of Education Clerk Daniel Bobay (effective 7/8/19), a Board seat is now open for a provisional appointment.
The Board has ‘til 9/6/19 to make the appointment, and if they do not do so by then, state law will require the matter to be put to an election. If the appointment is made, however, it’ll run ‘til 11/2020, at which point the seat will be filled by way of a regular election.
This means the MUSD Board of Education is now accepting applications, which can be picked up at the Milpitas Unified School District Superintendent’s Office (1331 E. Calaveras Boulevard, Building 100). The application period is 7/1/19 through 8/2/19. As of noon on 7/1, applicants can also access the application online at www.musd.org.
In the application packet will be a Candidate Information Sheet, along with the Application itself. Once completed, these must go to Superintendent Cheryl Jordan, who can also be contacted for more info at 408-635-2600 (x6013).
Bobay, who has served on the Board of Education for the past decade, moved away to Texas with his family this summer, therefore vacating his seat. The previous board meeting, held on 6/25, was Bobay’s last — although he wasn’t physically present. For his last board meeting, he was there via computer.
“It’s been a pleasure serving with you,” Board President Chris Norwood told Bobay, just before the meeting adjourned. “Seeing you as the Board President, as the Vice President, as the Clerk…always being willing to have the brave conversations to bring points to light so that us board members can learn and be aware…”
At that June meeting, the board voted to make Board President Norwood and Board Member Kelly Yip-Chuan part of a subcommittee that will review all incoming applications of those interested in the open seat.
