“San Jose Scavenger,” a new guidebook by Cassie Kifer, has been released by Reedy Press.

The book is laid out like a treasure hunt, inviting readers to explore “the South Bay’s hidden gems.” Readers can follow a bevy of clues leading to over 300 unique spots across 20 neighborhoods spanning the whole of Santa Clara County; it even has a section of locations that are in Milpitas.

The destinations in the book are walkable and bike-friendly, and include historic sites, architectural feats, works of art, parks, and museums. No matter which hunt the reader chooses to go on, they’ll have a chance to embrace local history, learning more about the “legends and lore” that define our region.

A press release accompanying the book’s publication invites people to “Discover an unexpected medieval fortification, burial grounds hidden under a busy city park, towering South Pacific totem poles, and a home with no right angles among other unexpected finds.”

The author, Cassie Kifer, is a local travel writer with a passion for our area’s history. Previously, she wrote “Secret San Jose: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.” Kifer’s starting a book tour to launch “San Jose Scavenger,” with the following appearances scheduled:
