Name: Dr. Ola Hassan
Running for: Mayor of Milpitas
Why are you running?
To provide all the necessary improvements urgently needed in Milpitas. Governance like-leadership, education, affordable housing, homelessness, small business, security, infrastructure maintenance, and embracing our diversity by allowing community participation in governance. Also, to stop recycling our politicians in Milpitas.
What’s the biggest problem facing Milpitas right now? And how would you intend to solve it?
Affordable Housing and Homelessness. I’d increase the percentage of low income on any new high-density homes. I will also lead in rezoning of abandoned business zoned properties, land, and buildings or structures for residential.
What would your priorities be should you get elected?
I would help our police by training our residents in providing Neighborhood Watch by dedicating a special phone line for citizens of Milpitas to report crimes when they notice one. I would be a team player Mayor to unite all the other council members to agree on issues through team efforts by presenting correctly analyzed data. I would create a system to integrate and align the City Government with MUSD, particularly on funding. I also support regular accountability to the community on issues.
What can you bring to the table that you feel no other candidate can bring?
I will not run again in Milpitas after my terms expire, in which I would have completed my promised obligations to my community.
Where do you see Milpitas 10 years from now?
As a business-friendly city. A safe city, a model city for other Bay Area cities. The city that celebrates our diversity and uses it as our strength, not our division. Providing low income affordable housing.
Who is your inspiration, and why?
Mayor Sam Liccardo. Transparency in government through community participation in governance.
What do you love most about Milpitas?
Our diversity.
