Name: Demetress Morris
Running for: Milpitas City Council
Why are you running?
To build a more cohesive community built around the concept of community achievement, which means we set goals and obtain them through hard work and with the collaboration of all stakeholders.
What’s the biggest problem facing Milpitas right now? And how would you intend to solve it?
I feel leadership is a huge issue for Milpitas. Without the proper leadership and the correct tone being set by leaders, very little can happen for our community. Therefore, I would solve this by providing the needed leadership and inclusion required for community success.
What would your priorities be should you get elected?
Housing as well as affordable housing. This focus would allow Milpitas to have cleaner streets and a more inclusive community, which leads to long-term benefits.
What can you bring to the table that you feel no other candidate can bring?
Operational Unity, meaning we operate as a unit, not as separate parts, while avoiding groupthink and valuing the diversity of thought and planning.
Where do you see Milpitas 10 years from now?
Under the right leadership, Milpitas can be a model city for other communities throughout our nation as it has in the past.
Who is your inspiration, and why?
The people in this community who quietly go about their duties while affecting change.
Can you tell us one interesting thing about yourself that other people don’t really know about?
I have a master’s degree in Leadership and an undergraduate in business. I value positive communication and the partnership of others to solve pressing issues.
What’s your favorite spot in Milpitas?
There are just too many to name, but my home is first and foremost as I love living in Milpitas.
What do you think is the most exciting thing happening in Milpitas right now?
The upcoming election because it allows us to make meaningful change and bring leaders forward whose focus is the public and its families.
What do you love most about Milpitas?
The people and the sense of a small-town community.
