Today on The Bay Area Beat, we delve into the San Jose Live Music Scene with Riley McShane of San Jose COME UP, a DIY music collective that organizes showcases of Bay Area musicians. Their mission is to bring new life to the growing San Jose music scene by creating unique community experiences around live music. The Come Up is run by local creatives for local creatives.
San Jose COME UP is producing their first festival titled SXSB (South By South Bay) Aug 3rd and 4th in downtown San Jose, celebrating live music and local film submissions, while raising eyebrows in the region.
What started as an idea by three friends to put on just one show snowballed into the collaboration now known as San Jose COME UP. With the help of a $ 1000 creative award by Pitch Please?!, an event sponsored by Exhibition District at Local Color in Downtown San Jose, Riley, along with his partners Isaiah Wilson and Leo Macaya, had the juice to push bigger shows and create a more solidified platform.
Since its debut in February 2018, COME UP has grown into a major force in San Jose’s growing music scene: presenting over 60 unique live acts across 8 different venues, and distributing more than $4,000 to performers in the greater Bay Area.
