A vacancy has opened up on the Milpitas Unified School District’s (MUSD) Board of Education.
Hon Lien, who had served on the school board since 2016, decisively won her campaign for Milpitas City Council in last November’s election, and had to vacate her seat. She was officially sworn in to the City Council on December 20, 2022.
Last week, MUSD put out a notice to spread the word to anyone who might be interested in applying to serve on the board.
The top five candidates, selected by the Board President and Vice President, will be interviewed during a Special Board Meeting which will take place on February 7. Applicants will be interviewed during the open session and have the opportunity to share their qualifications and experiences with the board.
Once the interviews and discussion have been completed, the Board hopes to appoint an applicant for the seat on that same evening. If, for whatever reason, the Board does not select a candidate within 60 days of the vacancy, MUSD must conduct an election.
Whoever fills the vacancy will be serving out the remainder of Lien’s term, which is up in November 2024.
The application for the vacancy can be found here.
