On Saturday, June 16, customers of the Milpitas Black Bear Diner (174 W. Calaveras Blvd.) were greeted by members of the Milpitas Police Department (MPD).
This “Tip a Cop” event was organized by MPD to help raise money for the Special Olympics while allowing police to connect with members of the community. The event was made possible by the tremendous support of Black Bear’s management and staff.
Police officers waited tables and served delicious food and drinks. At table 23, as a child customer named Dmitriy watched with emotional eyes, Officer M. Sanchez handed out the kids menu and took drink orders while Sergeant P. Tachis prepared lemonade at the soda machine behind the counter.
Meanwhile, Officer G. Lepe casually and happily popped out from the kitchen, balancing three plates at once.
The police force later got together with the diner staff and used their best voices to sing “Happy Birthday” to a customer named Sophia at table 32. The MPD wait staff ended the evening cleaning tables and mopping the floor so the restaurant could close.
Thanks to the customers’ generosity, MPD was able to raise over $2,500 for the Special Olympics of Northern California.
