Milpitas City Council meeting notes for November 2020

Note: These meeting notes will be added to as more meetings come in the month of November.

November 10, 2020:

Action is being taken to support homeless residents in Milpitas. This past Tuesday, City Council voted to enter into an agreement with Santa Clara County. For $200,000 per year, the County’s Homeless Engagement and Assessment Team (HEAT) will come out to Milpitas to provide needed assessments, case management services, and street team outreach. The team will also be available to support Milpitas Police Officers in handling mental health crisis situations. According to a staff report, “…after a one-year period of assessing and enrolling Milpitas residents into the County database for supportive housing, the Council could consider shifting funding to a new agreement for intensive project-based case management services that secure supportive housing units for Milpitas residents.” There are still more details to work out on what the exact plan will be for receiving project-based care services. Vice Mayor Bob Nuñez, Councilmember Karina Dominguez, Councilmember Anthony Phan, and Councilmember Carmen Montano all voted to move forward on the $200K agreement; Mayor Rich Tran abstained.
