Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian to open new facility in Milpitas

Rivian, a company known for manufacturing sustainable adventure vehicles, will soon be opening a new facility in Milpitas. The company is eyeing 755 Yosemite Drive.

The City of Milpitas put out a press release announcing the news, as Rivian and the City work together in partnership.

Said Mayor Carmen Montano, “We are thrilled to welcome Rivian to Milpitas. This investment highlights Milpitas’ strategic location, skilled workforce, and business-friendly environment, making it an ideal destination for leading-edge companies shaping the future of mobility.”

On March 4, in a unanimous vote, the Milpitas City Council moved to solidify the Rivian-Milpitas alliance in the years ahead, building on the Council’s stated commitments to job growth, economic development, and sustainable Milpitas living. Rivian stands to offer jobs that are green while establishing a new hub for production, research & development, and more.

Established in 2009, Rivian designs and manufactures an array of zero-emission adventure vehicles (i.e., vehicles which are designed for unpaved roads like trails and forests). The company employs 4,000 California residents and 14,000 workers overall.

Said the release, “Rivian’s arrival marks a significant milestone for the City’s economic development, reinforcing Milpitas’ position within the Bay Area’s thriving technology ecosystem. The company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation aligns with the City’s vision for a greener, more dynamic future.”

Look for Rivian in Milpitas by the end of 2025.

  1. They cannot pay their bills as a company now. They are on the edge of bankruptcy and losing ground. Not much to get excited about giving a company tax breaks and handouts on promises just so they can close the doors in a few years to hurt the local economy as a whole.
