It’s National Small Business Week, a time when the contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners across the country are celebrated.
On Tuesday, May 5, the Milpitas City Council recognized 17 small businesses that have been operating in Milpitas for over 40 years.
“Small businesses represent the backbone of a strong local economy, and so we’re grateful that they continue to serve the community in Milpitas,” said Interim Director of Economic Development Madison Nguyen in an interview with The Beat.
In Milpitas, over 90% of businesses are small, with 25 or fewer employees.
“It takes hard work, long hours, tough decisions, and a commitment. You have seen our city change and grow, and through it all, you continue to thrive,” said Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano during the presentation. “And we are so blessed that you are here in Milpitas. Today we want to say thank you for your decades of dedication and perseverance.”
Dr. Larry Napolitano, who has been running his dental practice in Milpitas for the last 41 years, was among those honored at the event.
“There are so many things to say when considering my nearly 42 years of service to our community. I am so thankful for my success and the honor of a commendation from the city,” said Dr. Napolitano. “There is so much that has contributed to my longevity. My passion and commitment are the foundation, but none of it is possible without an amazing staff. They make it all possible.”
