A follow-up from our article last week:
Yesterday, local officials announced that the long-awaited BART stations in Milpitas and San Jose would be opening on June 13, 2020.
All riders will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. BART is also taking enhanced cleaning measures to ensure that health and safety standards are being met.
Due to current sheltering in place orders, BART service hours are reduced to 5am-9pm on weekdays and 8am-9pm on weekends. For riders traveling from Milpitas out to the Embarcadero Station, it will take a total of 60 minutes.
At the Milpitas station, riders can connect to AC transit, the VTA bus, and light rail.
This $2.3 billion project broke ground in 2012, and is comprised of 10 miles of track. That brings the total of track to 131 miles. These two new stations are BART’s first in Santa Clara County, bringing the total amount of stations to 50.
Although ridership is currently down, the average amount of rides on weekdays was 408,000 trips pre-pandemic.
