It’s not every day that late-night dance parties happen at Milpitas supermarkets.
But an event called Late Night Madness transpired on December 12 and 13 at Filipino grocery store Seafood City on 1535 Landess Blvd.
Part of a series of pop-up dance parties, the event was a lively celebration of music, performances, and community.
The first-ever Late Night Madness party happened back in September at the Seafood City location in Daly City. Looking for a way to generate some excitement around their new Filipino street food line, the supermarket came up with the idea of having late night dance parties, extending their hours till midnight and transforming the space into a family-friendly dance club-like environment.
The parties were such a hit that they continued throwing them in Daly City on select weekends.
This past weekend, for the first time, Late Night Madness happened in Milpitas, as well as eight other cities.

Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano was at the event this past Saturday and sung a rendition of Feliz Navidad acapella-style to the crowd that gathered that evening. Councilmember Evelyn Chua was also there for both days.
“It was a wonderful example of community and cultural celebration,” said Councilmember Chua in an interview with The Beat. “The event brought together Filipinos of all ages, along with non-Filipinos, to enjoy music, dance, and shared experiences. It was inspiring to see the younger generation appreciate original and modern Filipino music and dance.”
Chua added: “I hope to see more events like this that unite and uplift our community.”
