Assemblymember Alex Lee introduces the No Tax Breaks for ICE Contractors Act

California State Assemblymember Alex Lee on Tuesday introduced legislation called the No Tax Breaks for ICE Contractors Act, so as to steer California taxpayer dollars away from corporations that work with U.S. Immigrations and Custom Enforcement (ICE).

Lee’s office wrote in a press release, “As ICE carries out extrajudicial murders of American citizens, corporations are making windfall profits as collaborators to the federal regime’s terror campaign. Mercenaries and private prison operators have inked multi-million federal contracts to enable ICE’s indiscriminate acts of violence. While corporate executives boast skyrocketing revenues, young children and families are being kidnapped by masked ICE agents, and warehoused in decrepit immigration detention centers.”

The bill, said the press release, will “ensure that California does not spend taxpayer dollars to bankroll corporations profiting off of ICE’s blatant violations of Constitutional rights and indiscriminate use of violence.”

In January alone, ICE agents in Minneapolis fatally shot U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti (both 37), spurring nationwide outrage as cell phone video footage widely circulated confirming that both people were unarmed at the time of their deaths.

Said Assemblymember Lee, “ICE is executing Americans, abducting toddlers, and violently breaking into homes and cars to drag innocent people into their unmarked vehicles. More kidnappings mean more profits for ICE contractors. By doing business with armed and masked thugs acting with impunity, corporations are raking in multi-million deals and tearing families apart. ICE must be abolished and its rogue elements prosecuted. The No Tax Breaks for ICE Contractors Act ensures that California does not subsidize corporations that profit off of ICE’s terror campaign, and instead directs public investments to our communities.”

ICE’s recent activities have boosted the profits of companies including private prisons, transportation companies, armed security services, software providers, and unmanned aircraft suppliers. Lee’s office emphasized that players in those industries currently benefit from generous California tax breaks, to the tune of $7 billion annually.

Lee’s bill seeks to prohibit California companies contracting with ICE from getting such tax breaks. Additional details on the No Tax Breaks for ICE Contractors Act are expected soon.

  1. This is smart! These goons are operating for money and power, so take some of it back from them. Maybe, some consequences will happen to the billionaires and corporations behind these lawless thugs who commit murder without response from our criminal justice system.
    .
What does it teach youngsters when ICE and BP murderers are protected from justice? When will the City Council of Milpitas show some opposition to tyranny?
