Milpitas Police Arrest Suspected Burglar on Lassen Ave.

Last Saturday, June 1, a Milpitas resident on Lassen Avenue’s 1300 block heard some strange sounds in her home…

From her family room came a thumping noise. And the sound of footsteps was coming from the hallway…

It was about 12:30 in the afternoon. Some 20 minutes prior, a suspicious man had knocked on the resident’s front door. After hearing the noises, she called the police, who pulled up inside of just two minutes.

Just the same, the police found no one. But the next day, the cycle repeated — one block over:

Sunday, June 2. About 2:25 in the afternoon. Now the setting was Lassen Avenue’s 1400 block. Another woman called the police after seeing a man in her backyard. Twenty minutes prior to appearing in the yard, he’d knocked on her front door.

Again, within minutes, the cops arrived…but no one could be found. In this case, though, the resident had a security camera which had caught the suspect on tape, which the resident handed over to the police.

The man would soon be identified as Milpitas resident Emmet Tahiry (23).

June 3. Monday. Just shy of 4:30 in the afternoon. Tahiry was sitting on a bench on Lassen’s 1400 block. A Milpitas cop happened to see him there, and recognized him from the surveillance video. Upon being approached, Tahiry gave the officers a fake name. They also sensed that he was on drugs.

They searched him. In his possession were crystal meth, drug paraphernalia, and stolen property from the June 1 crime. Milpitas detectives, along with Chief of Police Armando Corpuz, interviewed the suspect, then searched his home. There, they found more items from the June 1 episode. And it turned out Tahiry was on probation for crimes in two different counties: burglary in Alameda and a hit and run in Santa Cruz.

This time, he got booked into the Santa Clara County jail.

The charges: burglary, prowling, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, providing a false name, possession of drug paraphernalia, probation violation. Got more info?
